Apropos your request for opinions on possible use of this space, I would like to see (if not here) a grocery store somewhere within the Loop. The nearest are Brightleaf (walking distance and expensive), the newly-opened Food World (formerly Winn-Dixie near the Hayti Centre, 3/4 mile walk, reasonable prices and an incredible assortment of international foods), Compare Foods on University (one mile from Downtown, fair selection and prices) and Whole Foods on Broad Street, a 1.5 miles from Downtown.
A good number of folks like the corner grocery idea. Now we need to find someone who wants to open and run one….
Thanks responding,
Barry
How about a short-order sit-down at a counter or in a small booth kind of place where a reasonably priced lunch with vegetarian and vegan choices (besides portabello mushroom sandwiches)could be purchased? Maybe some outdoor seating, quick turn around time, sandwiches in the $5 range on interesting bread from the nearby 9th St. Bakery.
